What is copper chloride?
Copper (II) chloride, with the chemical formula CuCl2, is an inorganic substance whose aqueous solution is bright green, the dihydrate form is light blue and the anhydrous form is brown. This chemical occurs naturally as minerals such as tolbachite and eriochalcite.
Copper chloride production method
This chemical can be produced through various reactions.
1. Direct reaction of hydrochloric acid with copper
Cu (s) + 2HCl (l) → CuCl 2 (aq) + H 2 (g)
2. Direct chlorination of metallic copper with chlorine gas at 400 C.
Cu (s) + Cl 2 (g) → CuCl 2 (l)
3. Copper oxide reaction with ammonium nitrate.
CuO (S) + 2NH 4 Cl → CuCl 2 + 2NH 3 + H 2 O
4. Copper carbonate reacts with hydrocaric acid.
CuCO 3 (s) + HCl (l) → CuCl 2 (aq) + CO 2 (g) + H 2 O (g)
