Manganese nitrate

کلرید باریم , Calcium nitrate , Magnesium nitrate

What is manganese nitrate?

Manganese nitrate with the chemical formula Mn(NO3)is a white crystalline substance that is usually tetrahydrate. Like most nitrates, it dissolves easily in water and produces an acidic odor.

Manganese nitrates decompose when heated and convert to manganese dioxide and toxic nitrogen dioxide gas. Exposure to Mn(NO3)2 may cause lung embolism and bronchitis. It is also a strong oxidant, and its exposure to heat and its combination with the organic material may be explosive.

Manganese nitrate production

Mn(NO3)2 is produced by the reaction of nitric acid with manganese dioxide:

MnO + 2HNO3 → Mn(NO3)2 + H2O

Manganese nitrogen can also be reacted with nitrogen dioxide to produce manganese nitrate:

MnO2 + 2NO2 → Mn (NO3)2

Due to the fact that the reaction of mineral manganese dioxide has impurities and also the synthetic manganese dioxide is expensive, the best way to produce pure Mn(NO3)2 is the reaction of manganese carbonate with nitric acid. The product of this reaction has higher purity.

MnCO3 + 2HNO3 → Mn (NO3)2 + H2O + CO2

Manganese nitrate uses and applications

  • As a water-soluble agricultural fertilizer for supplying manganese and nitrogen for plants
  • Tile, ceramic and porcelain painting
  • Textile industry
  • Production of zinc carbon-batteries
  • As a catalyst in the production of chemicals
